What is SpyParty?

SpyParty is a spy game about human behavior, performance, perception, and deception. While most espionage games have you spend your time shooting stuff, blowing stuff up, and driving fast, SpyParty has you hide in plain sight, deceive your opponent, and detect subtle behavioral tells to achieve your objectives.

The venue pool works a little differently from the Summer Cup’s preset rotation, however. I’ll let Opi describe it:

Players will play a 12 game set using 6 maps (one sniper and one spy game on each) determined by the pick phase (see below). If a set comes to a tie, sudden death tiebreaker games will be played on balcony- the first to win two games more than their opponent will win the match.

Pick phase: There will be three map sets for players to choose from, each containing a 3/5 map, a 4/8 map, and a 5/8 map. Each player will pick one set of these before the game begins. The player that chose any given map set will choose what order in which they want to play the maps of their set. The set that was chosen first will be played before the set that was chosen second. The player who decides whether to choose their mapset first or second will be decided by a coinflip. The other player will decide who spies/snipes first. The sets of maps are as follows:

  • Terrace 3/5, Ballroom 4/8, Veranda 5/8
  • Pub 3/5, Teien 4/8, Library 5/8
  • Highrise 3/5, Gallery 4/8, Moderne 5/8

Each of these will be played on the standard quickplay formats. Players may choose missions for 3/5 maps. Each player will be required to report/confirm the result of the match. The winner will be required to submit replays of the set.

Tiebreakers: If two players hold the same score by the end of group stages, whomever of the two won the head to head match between them will take the higher seed. In the event of a three way tie, their record against the field of tied players will be used to break the tie. If there still remains 3-way tie, short tiebreaker matches will be played in which each player bans a mapset, playing a 6 game set with regular overtime rules.

Players have until January 15th to play their group stage matches.
